Mr John Black – “My life in Surgery”

Birmingham SurgSoc are honoured to host Mr John BlackPresident of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, when he visits Birmingham Medical School on Wednesday 16th March to deliver a talk on his life in Surgery and the many changes he has witnessed during his career.

Mr Black is a surgeon with local links to the West Midlands region, having obtained an MD from the University of Birmingham in 1978, and in the same year being appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon at the then Worcester Royal Infirmary. He served as its first Medical Director and still maintains these links by chairing the charity that built and runs the Charles Hastings Education Centre at the newer, recently opened Worcester Royal Hospital. Mr Black was elected to the Council of the Royal College in 2003 and subsequently elected as its President in 2008.

The President will also be presenting the certificates and prizes to the winners of SurgSoc’s National Academic Prizes Competition for this year, and the certificates and trophies to those students who have successfully completed this year’s SurgSoc Anatomy Course & Lecture Series.

SurgSoc feel honoured to welcome such an influential figure not only in the world of Surgery but within the medical professional in general, and hope that all of you will take the opportunity to attend. We look forward to seeing you all.
